Sofía Vergara Responded to Joe Manganiello Saying They Broke Up Over Wanting Kids
He previously denied that his wanting kids was the reason for the breakup.

After Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello broke up and broke all of our hearts, the two engaged in a she-said, he-said battle in the headlines regarding the exact reason for their separation. Officially, their divorce paperwork cited the vague and very Hollywood “irreconcilable differences,” but after the news broke, Vergara shared that Manganiello wanted to have children and she was content to be a mother to one. Vergara welcomed her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, when she was 19.

Speaking to Variety, Vergara said that Manganiello’s comments about never pressuring her to have kids were “simply not true.”

“At the end of the day, you never even know if that’s what he said for real,” she told Variety. “I’ve read a lot of things that I’ve said that I’m like ‘Huh?’ What am I gonna do, call him? I don’t know if he even said that.”

Last month, Manganiello opened up about the relationship for the first time and hoped to clear up any confusion by sharing his side of the story. He explained that Vergara’s comments weren’t necessarily true and that he didn’t want her to risk her health and have kids as an older woman (she previously said she didn’t want to be an “older mom”).

“It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens,” Magnaiello told Men’s Journal. “To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone?’ That’s never who I was.”

“We did try to have a family for the first year and a half. And we had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated. I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ But that wasn’t the case with her,” he noted. “And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t.”

Vergara also took the time to reminisce about her time on Modern Family, which welcomed her into our homes and made her one of America’s sweethearts. While fans all wait for a reunion, she noted that she is, too.

“I’d die to be on that set. It’d be so much fun. A TV movie maybe?” she shared.
