Unbelievable; Jimmy Kimmel hosting his last show on January 20th after Trump’s victory?
The claims about Jimmy Kimmel ending his nighttime show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, have spread on Facebook. A post alleged that the television host opted to do so following Donald Trump’s election victory. Despite the rumor going viral online, it is worth noting that they are not true and are purely satirical in nature.
On November 11, the SpaceX Fanclub Facebook page shared a social media post that read:
“Jimmy Kimmel Show to End January 20th: “I’m Leaving for Canada and Never Coming Back”
The social media post amassed over 800 reactions and more than 580 comments.
The Facebook post also shared a screenshot of an Esspots website story. An article published by the website claimed that Jimmy Kimmel said:
“Honestly, I never thought it would come to this. But here we are. After January 20th, the last episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will air, and I’m off to Canada. Maybe I’ll open a little comedy club in Toronto, or maybe I’ll just disappear into the Rockies. Either way, I’m leaving and never coming back.”
Speaking about his decision to move to Canada, Jimmy Kimmel said, as per Esspots:
“I’ve heard polar bears are more reasonable to deal with than certain voters. I just need a place where people don’t think ‘fake news’ is anything they disagree with. I’ll take my chances in Canada, where people actually believe in science, and maple syrup flows like water.”
Despite the news appearing real, it is worth noting that it is not true. The claims originated from a satirical Facebook page and website.
Jimmy Kimmel is not leaving his night show and moving to Canada
If one goes to the Esspots website and reads the article that refers to Jimmy Kimmel’s departure from his show, one can observe that the website has noted that the report is “SATIRE. It’s Not True.”
The About Us section of the Esspots website reads:
“Our team of writers and editors is dedicated to bringing you the latest and greatest in fake news and absurdity, all with a healthy dose of humor and satire.”

Facebook page SpaceX Fanclub, which shared the news of Kimmel’s move to Canada, has also specified in the “Intro” section of their Facebook page that they “post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real.”

If one goes to Kimmel’s and his show’s social media pages, they will also fail to find evidence of him claiming to be leaving for Canada. Hence, it is safe to say that the rumors are not true.
“We chose the criminal to be President”: Jimmy Kimmel gives monologue following Trump’s victory
However, Kimmel gave a monologue last Wednesday on his show following Trump’s victory in which he stated that it was a “terrible night” for women, children, immigrants, health care, journalists, climate, justice, free speech, senior citizens, democracy, NATO, and the middle class. He also added:
“We chose the criminal to be President of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged.”
The 56-year-old added that he wishes to find a silver lining in Trump’s win and hopes that people see through his ways. Kimmel said:
“I hope his next unpredictable act is to reach across the aisle and do something positive. The bar is low. He has an opportunity to win us over. Maybe this time, he’ll shock us and actually do some productive things. He won’t probably, but he could. Or maybe the only good part of all this is he can’t run again in 2028.”
Meanwhile, Kimmel continues to report on the political happenings in the U.S., with one of his latest videos being titled Unnecessary Censorship- Election Edition.
