Sofia Vergara took drastic steps to alter her iconic look for her role in the Netflix miniseries “Griselda,” where she portrays the notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco. The 53-year-old actress made a significant transformation to embody the character, aiming to downplay her usual appearance in favor of authenticity.

Vergara was keen to present Blanco’s unique presence without relying on her well-known physical attributes. She acknowledged that although Blanco wasn’t conventionally attractive, she possessed a certain “sex appeal” that Vergara felt was essential to convey.

“I didn’t want the bouncing that is natural for Latin women to show. I would have to wrap myself so that my butt wouldn’t jiggle,” Vergara told Variety.

“I had to wear a really bad bra. I had to cover my arms, because I have very skinny arms, and you don’t look threatening when you have this stupid little arm.”

To fully transform into Blanco, Vergara spent up to three hours each day in hair and makeup. The process included extensive work with makeup and prosthetics, taking an hour and a half, followed by meticulous styling of her wig and body makeup to complete the look, according to reports from Variety.

During an interview with Kelly Clarkson in January, Vergara emphasized just how significant the transformation was.

“It was a lot. They did a lot to me,” Vergara added. “It was teeth, it was wig, it was nose. It was plastic from here to here.”

Vergara’s focus on altering her appearance for the role came shortly after she discussed her views on aging and cosmetic procedures in an interview with Allure magazine in May.

She expressed a readiness to pursue plastic surgery when the time felt right, saying, “I’m going to do every plastic surgery that I can do when I’m ready,” and admitted she would have “done stuff already” if her busy schedule allowed for more downtime.
