Sofía Vergara nominated for the Emmy Award for best actress for Griselda
Actress Sofía Vergara has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actress for her leading role in the critically acclaimed Netflix miniseries Griselda.
The Television Academy announced the list of nominees for the 76th edition of the Emmy Awards that will take place on September 15 in Los Angeles. In the Outstanding Lead Actress category is Colombian actress Sofía Vergara for her leading role in the miniseries Griselda.
The actress hopes to win the award for the first time after previously being nominated four times in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 for her famous character as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC comedy “Modern Family.”

The list of nominees in the different categories of the Emmy Awards was announced on Wednesday. The actress has managed to make history because she has become the first Latina in the history of the Emmys to be nominated for Best Lead Actress in a miniseries.

When the news was announced, Sofía Vergara shared on her Instagram account the excitement she feels regarding the nomination and how grateful she is to the Television Academy.
“Wow. Griselda was my first dramatic role ever, and it took us 15 years to bring it to life. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who was a part of this series,” she wrote.
“I could never have done this without my director Andrés Baiz, my co-star Alberto Guerra, Eric Newman and the full creative team, my partner and producer Luis Balaguer, Ted Sarandos, and his team at Netflix, and all of the amazing cast and crew. I never dreamed that after “Modern Family” I would be able to be a part of something as special as Griselda. I’m honored to be recognized alongside Jodi, Brie, Juno and Naomi, incredible women who gave us incredible TV this year. Thank you to the television academy for this incredible honor!”
The miniseries is a crime drama that premiered on Netflix on January 25, 2024 and is based on the life of Colombian drug trafficker, Griselda Blanco.
