Paris Olympics: Peculiar Rule Puts Coco Gauff in Pole Position for Glory While Jessica Pegula & Danielle Collins Suffer

Being at the top position in tennis certainly has its own merit. One can ask the No. 2 seed at the Wimbledon, and now at the Paris Olympics too! Every tennis enthusiast was taken aback when the organizers handed an easy draw to the American tennis star, Coco Gauff, at the Grass Slam, to avoid the clash between top seeds early in the tournament. And now the rule at the Olympics helped the American tennis star in raising hopes of securing a medal.

The most-awaited tournament in the sports world is just ~ 3days away. And every athlete is ready to prove their mettle in front of the world. Moreover, Paris is also ready to host the world’s best with love. In tennis, the seeds and draws are out, and guess what? Gauff turned out to be lucky yet again. This is in contrast to the Grand Slam, where players majorly represent themselves as they look to achieve the ultimate prize. The Olympics are all about nations competing with each other. Hence, rules are there to accommodate fair play and representation.

The USA would be represented by 4 players: Gauff, Emma Navarro, Jessica Pegula, and Danielle Collins. As per the Olympic rule, two players of a nation won’t face each other before the semifinals. This means that Gauff has steered clear of Pegula and Navarro, both of whom have secured wins over the US Open champion in 2023. But at the same time, this also means that Pegula and Collins have a higher likelihood of facing the current Roland Garros champion, Iga Swiatek, in the quarterfinals.

Moreover, this also means that if Gauff faces no surprises or upset before the semifinals, she would be assured of an Olympic medal (bronze). If she proceeds to the final, not only can she secure a silver but would have a chance to create history in Paris. On the same court where she lost in the semifinals of the Roland Garros 2024! And after a dismal and eye-catching performance (for all the wrong reasons) the American tennis star hopes to end the season on a brighter note.
