Modern Family’s Julie Bowen Reveals What Her Friendship With Sofia Vergara Is Really Like…
Amid rivalry rumors with Modern Family costar Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen reveals she was “blown away” by the false narrative.
Nothing can come between this (Modern) Family.
Despite rumors of a feud between the two, Modern Family costars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara’s friendship is stronger than ever.
“We get along like a house on fire,” Julie told E! News in an exclusive interview. Which is why she was “blown away” by the idea that she was ever at odds with the America’s Got Talent judge.
“We are absolutely, completely different,” she acknowledged. “I like to wear the baggiest, grossest underwear and show them to her, and she’s like, ‘Please, why are you wearing that?’ She used to leave little thong underwear for me in my trailer, and I was like, ‘What is this? What is this tiny scrap of fabric?’ Because she wants me to be more of a woman.”
Undergarments aside, “I love her,” the Happy Gilmore actress continued. “She’s confident, she’s funny. I’ll never understand why there’s this scarcity mentality about women. It’s like, if two or more get together they must be either witches in a coven or they hate each other. Guess what? We’re witches.”
And she does have a fondness for all things spooky, having signed on for the upcoming thriller drama series Hysteria!. Though the Peacock show—set during the 1980s era of Satanic panic—came with some scary consequences.
In fact, she recalled that all the smoke they used on the set of the show led her to a dry eye disease diagnosis after her contacts kept popping out. And Julie is teaming up with Bausch and Lomb to better equip the 38 million people that share her struggle to treat the inflammation with Xiidra.
“Apparently, my eyeballs were all inflamed,” she told E! “What’s scarier than that?”
Luckily, she has her coven to lean on should she need any support, the entire Modern Family cast remaining quite close—even four years after the final season of the show aired.
“When you’re shooting, you’re only really shooting maybe an hour of the day combined, and the rest of the time you’re just chit chatting and doing bits and mucking around craft service,” Julie shared. “So it doesn’t feel that weird to hang out in real life.”
But the 54-year-old admitted that spending time with her former castmates came with its own set of difficulties, having recently cheered on Sarah Hyland during her off-Broadway run in Little Shop of Horrors and reuniting with Jesse Tyler Ferguson to support Aubrey Anderson-Emmons—who played Lily Pritchett—in her high school play.
