“It’s Tough”: Travis Kelce’s Mom Donna Joins Patrick Mahomes in Defending Chiefs TE Amid Season Struggles…
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce isn’t having the best of starts in the NFL. He hasn’t contributed much to his team’s victories in the first 3 games. The tight end is at mere 8 receptions with 69 yards this season and is yet to score a touchdown. And analysts are criticizing him. Now, a family member has come forward to defend him: his mother, Donna.
She was in New York to attend the premiere of his web series, Grotesquerie. While talking about her son’s performances, she said, “It’s tough, it really is. You don’t realize how many times people are trying to keep you from catching the ball, or trying to trip you up or hit you… so it’s kinda hard when you’ve got people that are in your face 24/7.”
His mother’s support came after defense from his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The QB also highlighted the TE’s importance in the game during the post-game conference after the week 3 game against the Falcons. In the game, the MVP often passed to other wide receivers than Travis Kelce, but he clarified that most defenses focus on the TE, which leaves a lot of open space for other players.
The locker room echoes the same sentiment. All players feel that the tight end is more useful in the playoffs than in the regular season. The TE has also reiterated in the New Heights podcast that he is focused on improving his performance. He partially agreed with QB’s statements that he was still happy as the Chiefs are still winning.
With such a push from key people in his life, we can expect an improvement sooner rather than later. For now, he is getting praise for his work in his debut web series.
Ryan Murphy, director of Grotesquerie, revealed many interesting aspects of TE’s journey into the world of acting. The first spark happened when the NFL star told him that he wanted to act. When Murphy told him to wait, the TE showed eagerness and told him that he had 3 months (in the offseason) to pursue an acting career.
The director then told Travis Kelce about the web series and tailored the role for him. And he was blown away by his commitment during the shoot of the first episode. His co-star Niecy Nash was also impressed. Describing the TE’s work ethic, Murphy said, “He was the best. Travis, I always say this, but a star is a star, and he’s a star.”
