In Pictures: Coco Gauff shines in traditional dress as she tours the Forbidden City; jokes about her mother “messing up” her photo ahead of China Open

Coco Gauff shared glimpses of her Chinese vacation with her mother, Candi Gauff, in traditional attires, and joked about the latter’s photography skills ahead of the 2024 China Open, commencing on September 27. In last year’s edition, Gauff lost to eventual winner Iga Swiatek in the semifinal.

Coco Gauff recently competed at the 2024 US Open with her eyes on the title defense. She defeated Varvara Gracheva, Tatjana Maria, and Elina Svitolina in the first three rounds, but couldn’t get past her compatriot Emma Navarro in the fourth. However, despite her best efforts, Gauff lost 3-6,6-4,3-6 to the eventual semifinalist.The former World No. 2 will now look to make it to the finals of the 2024 China Open. Ahead of her stint in Beijing, she toured around the picturesque capital with her mother, Candi Gauff, and shared pictures on her Instagram stories.

In the first story, she adorably positioned her phone for her mother to click a perfect picture.
“Lol when you gotta position the phone right where you want it so your mo doesn’t mess up your photo lol,” she captioned.

The following story featured the 2023 US Open champion running down the slope of the Great Wall of China.

“Rented the Great Wall all to myself,” Gauff captioned the story.

In the next story, she flaunted her traditional Chinese dress, posing in front of a pagoda at the Forbidden City, in Beijing.

In the previous story streak, she shared the frame with her mother, who also posed at the Great Wall of China like her daughter.

During the practice session ahead of the 2024 China Open, the World No. 6 was left perplexed when a fan asked the American to autograph a laptop. In a video shared by WTA Tour on X, Coco Gauff was seen giving out autographs when a fan produced a laptop for her to sign, prompting the 20-year-old to remark:

Following her 2024 US Open defeat, Gauff parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert, who helped her win the 2023 US Open title and coached for 14 long months. He penned a note of gratitude for his former tutee and wished her life-long success.Gauff, who is seeded fourth for the WTA 1000 event, already has one WTA 1000 title from the 2023 Cincinnati Open and will look to add another in Beijing this year.
