Coco Gauff’s coach under fire after disappointing Olympics and Canadian Open showing

Some think that she could fire him

The pressure is building on Coco Cauff’s coach after her poor showing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the decision to take part in the Canadian Open.

Gauff actually said after she had come nowhere near a medal in Paris and then losing in the round of 16 in Canada that she questioned whether or not she should have taken part in the Toronto tournament which was so soon after the Olympics.

She wanted to test herself, but the American tennis star’s fans now think that her coach, Brad Gilbert, has not been advising her properly and should be removed from his role.

Gauff wants to win the US Open
It is not long until she attempts to defend her US Open title but after poor showings in Toronto and Paris, confidence around the 20-year-old’s chances is at an all-time low.

After the setback in Canada, she was quick enough to acknowledge her shortcomings, saying: “I just wasn’t finding my timing well. I had a lot of unforced errors and a lot of double faults. She played steady, and she didn’t give me any free points.”

Fans had expected Gauff to win a medal in the Olympics. Remembering how she left the Paris Olympics arena in tears, Gauff said: “It does inspire me and just also it puts perspective to my age. A lot of them are 24, between 24 to 27 range. I think I just learned to trust in my training and trust in the journey.

“I question whether I should have played (in Toronto) or not, but I wanted to test myself. I didn’t have high expectations, but I wish I could have competed better today, even if it resulted in a loss. I don’t think I competed well.”
