Coco Gauff US Open 2024: Matches, odds, and more about Coco Gauff at this year’s last Grand Slam
The American tennis player will begin the defense of her title this Monday against Varvara Gracheva
Coco Gauff is one of the most recognizable figures in tennis today. However, that is not exactly a good thing. Fame is taking a high toll on the American tennis player who is far from being in her best form to defend the US Open title she won last year.
Gauff had one of the best seasons of her career in 2023. Victories in Auckland, Washington, and Cincinnati catapulted her to number three in the WTA rankings, making her one of the big favorites to win at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Coco Gauff lived up to expectations by coming from behind to beat Aryna Sabalenka in the final by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 62. However, things have changed a lot since a year ago, and Gauff is going through a slump a couple of days before starting the defense of her title.
Gauff’s bad year
The American star will begin participating in the US Open this Monday, August 26, as the third seed against the French Varvara Gracheva. If she passes this test, she will face the winner between the German Tatjana Maria and the Argentine Solana Sierra in the second round.
However, the last few months have not been good for Gauff. After a defeat in the fourth round of Wimbledon, amid conflicts with her coach, Brad Gilbert. Gauff also went out in the third round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games tournament.
The change to hard courts to prepare for the US Open did not suit her any better. Losses in the second round in Toronto and the first round in Cincinnati dropped her from second to third place in the WTA rankings. In 2023, Gauff arrived in New York with 11 wins in 12 matches; this year, she has won just one of three in recent weeks.
