Coco Gauff stunned by fellow American as she is eliminated in the fourth round of the US Open
This was not expected by anyone
Coco Gauff, the defending US Open champion, was eliminated in the Round of 16 and, as in the men’s division, there will be a new queen of the tournament. Emma Navarro gave the surprise and, now, in her hometown, she will have the chance to be crowned.
Coco Gauff was unable to remove the thorn from her executioner at Wimbledon, the Grand Slam prior to the defense of her crown at the US Open, as it was a very complicated match that she never controlled.
“This is the city in which I was born. It feels very special to play here. Coco is an incredible player. I have a lot of respect for him. I know she will come back and win this again,” Navarro said after the encounter.

Coco tried but just could not
Coco Gauff, current number three in the world, was beaten in three sets 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3. Navarro had already taken Coco’s number on the sacred grass of Wimbledon, and although it now took him one more set, in the end he sealed a new victory to qualify for the quarterfinals.
This is the first time that Emma has reached the quarterfinals at the Grand Slam in her country, in what was her third victory of the season against rivals from the top 10 of the WTA.
“It’s crazy. I lost in the first round the last two years. Now being in the quarterfinals is crazy. It is the city in which I was born. It feels very special to play here. Coco is an incredible player. I have great respect for her. I know he will come back and win this tournament again,” Navarro said at the end of this match.
