Coco Gauff played her first doubles match at the Olympics today. Here’s how she did.
She played her first Olympic tennis match on Saturday.
PARIS, France — Atlanta native Coco Gauff’s talents were on display in full force in her first Olympics tennis match in Paris on Saturday.
In a doubles match and paired with Jessica Pegula, the United States’ female flag bearer during the Opening Ceremony on Friday, the combo defeated Australia’s Daria Saville and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-1.
Last September, Gauff cemented her stardom by winning the U.S. Open singles title and just last month, Gauff won the French Open doubles title with Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic.
Gauff missed the Tokyo Games after testing positive for COVID-19 right before she was supposed to fly to Japan three years ago, so her first Olympic win was undoubtedly a huge sigh of relief for the 20-year-old.
