Following Coco Gauff confirming her plans of not playing doubles anymore this year, her partner Jessica Pegula has also announced similar plans. Pegula confirmed she plans to focus more on singles for the rest of the year.
Pegula and Gauff were part of Team USA at the Olympics and also teamed up for the women’s doubles event. Currently, Pegula is continuing her run at the Canadian Open singles event while Gauff has been eliminated.Pegula teamed up with Giuliana Olmos in the women’s doubles event in Toronto. The American and Mexican pair were defeated in the quarterfinals by the third-seed pair of Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk.In the singles, event, Pegula defeated Ashlyn Krueger in the third round. During a press conference after her match, the 30-year-old was asked about her plans in doubles.
“For me, I’m not sure. I know Coco doesn’t really, isn’t interested in playing, or at least I’m not, we’re not thinking of playing, so I probably will take it easy on the doubles the rest of the year, so, yeah, we’ll see,” Pegula said.
Further, she said that her plans are focused on singles for the rest of the year.
“I think I’ll just play maybe whenever I kind of want to (laughing), and maybe just focus on singles the rest of the year,” she added.
Gauff, who did not participate in the doubles event at the Canadian Open, revealed she has no plans of playing the format in the coming future.
“No, I’m not going to be playing doubles. I just, the goal was to try to get as good as possible for the Olympics and then, yeah…,” Coco Gauff revealed in a press conference.
