Gene Deal, the former bodyguard of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has shocked the public with an extraordinary revelation in the Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne. Deal claims that hours before Combs was acquitted of all charges in a 1999 nightclub shooting case, the music mogul participated in a ritual involving the sacrifice of a bird. The ritual, according to Deal, took place at Central Park in New York on the day Combs was scheduled to hear his trial verdict.

Deal recalled seeing Combs drop to his knees in front of another man surrounded by smoke, which he believes was caused by burning sage. The man was reportedly holding a Bible and praying, before instructing Combs to release a white bird from a cage. After Combs threw the bird into the air, Deal said it “fell to the ground lifeless.” Later that day, Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the shooting at Club New York, while rapper Shyne was convicted and sentenced to prison.

The 1999 Nightclub Shooting Case
The shooting at Club New York, a Manhattan nightclub, remains one of the most talked-about incidents in hip-hop history. On the night of December 27, 1999, a confrontation between Combs’ entourage and a group of individuals in the club led to the shooting, which left three bystanders injured. The incident occurred while Combs was at the club with his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.
Despite being involved in the incident, Combs was acquitted of all charges in 2001, largely due to a lack of direct evidence linking him to the shooting. Meanwhile, Shyne, a rising star under Combs’ Bad Boy Records label, was convicted of assault, reckless endangerment, and illegal weapon possession. Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison, despite maintaining his innocence and claiming he was merely acting in self-defense.
