Beyoncé’s Has An Estimated $760M Net Worth Today, But As A Child, An Elementary School Teacher Told Her Father She Wasn’t ‘Gonna Do Anything’ With Music
A resurfaced clip concerning a teacher who downplayed Beyoncé’s future in music is making its rounds on the internet.
The 2023 clip came from an episode of “The Mindvalley Podcast with Vishen Lakhiani,” in which Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, recalled an incident prompting him to come to his daughter’s defense. The incident in question involved an elementary school teacher who made comments about Beyoncé’s commitment to music overshadowing her focus on core school subjects, Atlanta Black Star reports.
“This was a Montessori school, and I was on the board there,” said Knowles, recounting his daughter’s time as a student at the school, St. Mary of The Purification, located in Houston, TX’s Third Ward neighborhood. “And this teacher walks up to me and says, ‘Well, you know Beyoncé made a C+ in math, and she could do better, and she’s spending too much time with music.’”
He also noted that the teacher shared that Beyoncé was “always talking about music and singing,” and that she was “not gonna do anything with that.”
In Beyoncé’s defense, Knowles recalled telling the educator, “You know, I just want my kids to do the very best that they can. I can tell you, because I work with her, she’s doing the very best she can in math. So, I’m happy with that as a father.”
Moreover, Knowles, who was also once Beyoncé’s manager, revealed his stance on children being experts in school subjects and the importance of having grace when they do not make perfect scores.
“I realize every area we’re not experts in, and I think as parents sometimes we forget that ourselves,” he said. “We’re not experts in every area. There’ll be some areas our kids will struggle.”
Fans flocked to leave comments under the resurfaced interview clip with one person writing on X, “Now this is a Daddy Lesson I can fully subscribe to. Parents be expecting honor roll knowing they barely passed most of their classes smh.”
Another person wrote, “‘Who needs a degree when you’re schooling LIIFEEEEE’ she saw the vision at an early age,” using lyrics from the hitmaker’s 2011 track “Schoolin’ Life” to support their argument.
While Beyoncé may have struggled with math in elementary school, it looks as though she quickly caught up on it because the numbers for her over-20-year solo career do not lie.
According to Forbes, Beyoncé has an estimated net worth of $760 million. As previously reported by AFROTECH™, Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” broke records and joined Billboard’s Top 10 Tours of All Time coming in at No. 7 with a gross of $580 million and attendance of 2.8 million people across 56 shows.
