Prince William Reacts After He Spots Fan of Opposing Team Holding Surprising Cardboard…see more
I’ve grown quite used to seeing Prince William keep his composure when it comes to royal outings—but that certainly wasn’t the case at the Euro quarter-final match between England and Switzerland last weekend.
The Prince of Wales, 42, went through a roller-coaster of emotions as he watched the “nail-biting” game, from launching his fists into the air to cradling his face in his palms. But even before the match began, there was a cheeky sign in the crowd that caught his attention.
Per Hello! magazine, Prince William was seen laughing after he spotted a Swiss fan holding up a sign that read, “God save the cheese”—a clever spin on the common British phrase, “God save the king.”
The royal was all smiles and laughs until the match began, and the intense game ultimately ended with a victory for England (or the Three Lions). After the game, the prince tweeted, “Nail biting to the very end. Well done @England! Semi-finals here we come! We believe. W.”
The prince, who is also president of the English Football Association, shared a similar reaction when England narrowly beat Slovakia during the previous round to make it to the quarter-finals. At the time, he wrote on Twitter, “Emotional rollercoaster! Let’s go England! Quarter finals here we come!”
The Prince of Wales has previously enjoyed soccer games alongside his son, Prince George, but this time around, he attended the event solo.
The news of William’s enthusiasm during the big game comes just a few days after he was spotted zipping around Windsor Castle on an electric scooter. A royal fan shared footage of the royal on TikTok, and people were very amused. One follower commented, “Wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card.” Another added, “Love this man so much, he is the coolest future king ever.”
