Emma Navarro says what genuinely ‘surprised’ her during her match against Coco Gauff at the US Open

Emma Navarro has stormed into the quarter-finals of the US Open after knocking out defending champion Coco Gauff.

Navarro respects Gauff, but was forced to put that admiration to one side for their US Open fourth round clash.

The former emerged victorious 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 against third seed Gauff, who won her first and only Grand Slam in New York last year.

Arthur Ashe Stadium hosted the all-American encounter, with the match representing Navarro’s first appearance at the venue.

Her fantastic year has now taken another impressive step, with Spaniard Paula Badosa now awaiting in the quarter-final.
